NewsGate Magazine: For the records, may we know you sir?
Hon. Buba: Well, my name is Dr. Ado Abubakar Buba. I am the current Executive Chairman, Wase Local Government Council of Plateau State.
NewsGate Magazine: Sir, can you tell us how far the revenue generated in Wase Local Government has been? Is there any improvement or are there challenges faced?
Hon. Buba: Well, when I came in, that is in 2018, the revenue of Wase Local Government was raised in Hundreds of Thousands, but when we came in, we were able to raise it to about One Million Naira monthly. So we have recorded tremendous improvement in our internally generated revenue and we still have a lot of other areas to explore and I'm sure that is what the state is going to do here. They are going to accelerate the rate at which direct revenue across the state is improved upon. We have provided them with offices for the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service within our local Government Secretariats and we are going to work hand in hand with the Local Council, Revenue Task Force (RTF) so that they can collect revenue properly. The law has clearly stated where the Local Government will collect it's revenue and where the state collects there's. So, there won't be any conflict at the end of the day. And I assure you in the next couple of months, we are going to record statistical improvement both at the State Internal Revenue Service and the individual Local Government Councils.
NewsGate Magazine: We are aware that the revenue law in the State allowed Local Government to benefit certain percentage from the revenue generated by the state, have they been been remitting those of the Local Government Councils?
Hon. Buba: Well, this is a very big issue that needs to be resolved between the executive arm of the state, and as well as the executive arm of the local councils, and I don't want to make further comments beyond that.
NewsGate Magazine: Sir, you have been into office for the past nine months, can you enumerate some of your achievements so far?
Hon. Buba: When we came on board, we were faced with quite a lot of challenges, challenges I as a person met on ground. We met not less than 24 on-going projects across all the 20 Wards of the Local Government Areal and of course, the general election was by the corner so, we had to battle with some few challenges. But as of today, we thank God and we are happy to say we have scaled through the general elections successfully, and as far as the projects are concerned, we have only two outstanding. Out of the 24, I think 22 have been fully completed and and we have paid fully the monies for those contracts and very soon within two or three weeks, we will soon complete the outstanding two.
So, we are doing our best. We are mindful of the fact that we have only three years as our tenure and within those three years, we intend to impact the lives of our people by God's grace.
NewsGate Magazine: You have the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Idris Ahmed Maje Wase, who is also the Deputy speaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, how do you feel?
Hon. Buba: I am happy for the Deputy Speaker. We thank God for this big blessings in the State and to my Local Government particularly, I am sure at the end of his tenure, we are going to record a lot of progress at the level of the state and as well as the level of my Local Government Council, which is his primary constituency.
