We Have 6,102 unclaimed Licences- ACM Omiyale
Federal Road safety Corps, zonal Commanding officer, zone 4 comprising Plateau Nasarawa and Benue states, Assistant Corps Marshal Ayobami A. Omiyale revealed that the command had about 6,102 unclaimed drivers' licence.
Giving the breakdown of the figures ACM Omiyale said "in spite of the Corps efforts in the production of National Drivers' Licence in sanitizing the highways the zone as at week 25 of 2019 had a total of 6,102 unclaimed licences. Plateau 1,368, Benue 2,404 and Nasarawa 2,330 respectively."
He made the disclosure during a courtesy call at NUJ Secretariat in Jos where he solicits for Journalists support as critical stakeholders in respect to the commencement of enforcement of motorcycle/ Tricycles number plates and riders' licences by the command on 1st August, 2019. Noting that these are used to commit crimes.
"There is a need to educate and enlighten the public that is why we are seeking for partnership with Journalists as critical stakeholders." He mentioned.
Omiyale further explain that human factors are responsible for over 90 percent of roads accident, ranging from over speeding, over load, inability to make use of sit belt, lack of maintenance of the Tyres, etc.
He said " I am very concerned about Hawan- kibo route because there is a lot of sharp bends and alot of break failure occurred most especially in tankers, trailers and other motorists which claims many lives.
" As a result of that, we intend to put 36 traffic size there(Hawan-kibo) that is why in our first courtesy visit to Grand Cereals and oil limited we told them our mission and they promised to support massively.
"FRSC alone can't handle the road, that road will involve a task force and operational vehicles.Hawan-kibo is not a route where drivers can over take, so many crashes occurred."
Other routes where FRSC will give priority attention in the zone are; Pankshin-Mangu route, Makurdi-Lafia, Gboko-Makurdi route in Benue as well as Keffi-Barde route,Akwanga-Lafia route and Garaku-Akwanga route in Nasarawa state.
Omiyale assured prompt collaboration with the federal road maintenance agency(FERMA) and states government to achieve its target. Adding that soon they will implement speed limiter on the Plateau.
You would recall ACM Ayobami A. Omiyale resumed duty in Plateau command following the retirement of ACM Patricia Emeordi JP on the 14th may, 2019.
